First WEDSTAR Scholarship Award Ceremony Held at The Education University of Hong Kong

On May 5, 2026, Dr. Zhao Meiling, President of Women Empowerment and Development Society in Asia and Africa (WEDS.AA) and a council member of the China Foundation for Peace and Development, was invited to attend the first WEDSTAR Scholarship award ceremony at The Education University of Hong Kong (EdUHK). She presented awards to 15 outstanding postgraduate students. The scholarship is fully funded by the “Silk Road Happiness” Special Fund. It will run for three years and supports outstanding postgraduate students to go on overseas exchange programs, helping young people broaden their international vision. Professor John Lee, President of EdUHK, Dr. Zhao Meiling, and a student representative each gave a speech.

He said that EdUHK, with the support of our motherland and connected to the world, will continue to focus on education, serve national development, and help build a country with strong education.

Dr. Zhao Meiling spoke on behalf of the donor. She introduced the purpose of the scholarship and announced that all award-winning students would officially become “WEDSTAR Youth Ambassadors.” They also received public service task cards. After completing the required public service tasks, students can get a certificate of honor and special benefits such as opportunities to take part in international projects, allowing them to put kindness into action and spread love.

She encouraged the young students to be friendly young ambassadors between China and other countries, to help promote cultural exchange and mutual understanding, and to contribute their youth and strength to building a community with a shared future for human.

After the ceremony, Dr. Zhao Meiling had a special discussion with Vice President Professor Chan Chi-hang and the award-winning students. They talked about youth development and international public welfare work.
