Former Malawi President Joyce Banda is invited to visit China
From July 22 to 26, 2024, His Excellency Joyce Banda, former President of Malawi and Honorary Chairman of the Woman Empowerment & Development Society in Asia-Africa, was invited to conduct a working visit to China.
During the visit, Joyce Banda and his delegation visited the China Foundation for Peace and Development and had cordial and friendly exchanges with Secretary General Xu Jianguo. President Joyce Banda thanks the Malawi Foundation for its “Love in Malawi” educational program and donation of agricultural equipment, which has benefited women and children in Malawi.
The Executive Vice Governor of Hunan Province, Zhang Yingchun, and the Vice Chairman of the China Promotion Association of the International Department of the Communist Party of China, Li Jun, respectively hosted a banquet for President Banda and his delegation. China Foundation for Peace and Development and the Woman Empowerment & Development Society in Asia-Africa held a welcoming banquet in honor of Your Excellency Banda’s visit to China.
On July 25th, former president Joyce Banda attended the Parallel Session of the Seventh China-Afica People’s Forum held in Changsha, Hunan. Before the opening ceremony, Vice Chairman Li Hongzhong of the Standing Committee of the National People’s Congress met with guests including Joyce Banda. His Excellency Joyce Banda emphasized in his speech that China Africa relations have a long history and deep friendship.In the current complex and ever-changing global situation, China and Africa should strengthen unity and cooperation, jointly address challenges, and promote the continuous development of bilateral relations. As an important channel for civil exchanges between China and Africa, public welfare and charity have unique advantages and potential,and will undoubtedly play an important role in promoting people to people exchanges between China and Africa.
During his stay in Hunan, President Banda also visited the former residence of President Mao Zedong in Shaoshan and presented a flower basket to the statue of Mao Zedong.Visited the Palace Museum in Beijing and visited Beijing Handian Hospital of Traditional Chinese Medicine to experience traditional Chinese medicine diagnosis and treatment, acupuncture and moxibustion, massage and other projects, which were highly recognized. She also met some entrepreneurs. Although the visit to China was short, the content was exciting and achieved complete success. President Zhao Meiling of the Woman Empowerment & Development Society in Asia-Africa accompanied president Joyce Banda throughout the entire process.
