SEARCHING FOR KUNG FU: China-Pakistan Film Reception
On March 22, 2025, the “Gate of Nine Dragons: SEARCHING FOR KUNG FU” film reception, jointly organized by the Women Empowerment & Development Society in Asia-Africa and the Embassy of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan in China, was successfully held at the Pakistan Embassy College Beijing. Diplomats from Asian and African countries, along with martial arts enthusiasts, gathered to experience the charm of Chinese martial arts culture.
The event commenced with an opening speech by the Ambassador of Pakistan to China. He emphasized that China and Pakistan are “iron-clad brothers,” with cultural exchanges remaining a vital pillar of bilateral relations. The film “Gate of Nine Dragons: SEARCHING FOR KUNG FU” not only showcases the beauty of martial arts but also conveys its profound cultural and philosophical essence.
In her remarks, Ms. Zhao Meiling, President of the Women Empowerment & Development Society in Asia-Africa, highlighted the association’s commitment to fostering cultural exchanges between China and other nations. She stated that this collaborative event with the Pakistani Embassy aims to celebrate the unique allure of Chinese Kung Fu through cinema, thereby enhancing cross-cultural understanding.
Following the film screening, director Laurence Brahm engaged in an interactive session with diplomats, sharing anecdotes and insights from the filmmaking process. Discussions revolved around the inheritance and evolution of Chinese Kung Fu, as well as cultural exchanges between China and the world. The event also featured live demonstrations by two Kung Fu masters, whose performances captivated the audience with their power and artistry, earning thunderous applause. Diplomats expressed deepened appreciation for Chinese martial arts and the distinctive charm of Chinese culture.
