Xizang Teachers and Students Experience Cross-Border Compassion
At 3:00 PM on July 29, 2025, a delegation of teachers and students from primary schools in Dingri County, Shigatse City, Xizang, visited the Embassy of the Republic of Indonesia in China to participate in a unique cultural exchange and gratitude event. The initiative aimed to allow children from the snow-covered plateau to firsthand experience the warmth and care of the international community, further promoting cross-cultural exchanges and humanitarian solidarity between China and abroad.
Attending the event were Ms. Evi, Minister Counselor of the Embassy of the Republic of Indonesia in China; Ms. Christiane, Chairperson of the GAAS and Wife of the Ambassador of Gabon to China; Dr. Zhao Meiling, President of the Women Empowerment & Development Society in Asia-Africa (WEDS.AA); and Mr. Liu Zhenzhong, Deputy General Secretary of the China Foundation for Peace and Development. The atmosphere was solemn yet warm, with the embassy hall brimming with friendship and enthusiasm.
The event began with a heartfelt address by Ms. Evi Minister Counselor of the Indonesian Embassy. On behalf of all embassy staff, she extended the warmest welcome to the delegation from Xizang. Ms. Evi noted that Indonesia and China have long maintained friendly and cooperative relations, people-to-people exchanges serving as a cornerstone of bilateral ties. She highly commended the significance of the visit, emphasizing that it was not merely a cultural dialogue but a spiritual connection, fully reflecting the international community’s profound concern for education in Xizang and the well-being of the children there.
Subsequently, Dr. Zhao Meiling, President of WEDS.AA, reviewed the touching journey of the diplomatic corps in China to raise funds and deliver supplies for students affected by the earthquake. “Earthquakes are merciless, but humanity is compassionate,” she stated emotionally. “In times of disaster, our great motherland remains the strongest backbone for these children, while international friends have extended their hands in solidarity, embodying cross-border friendship through concrete actions.” She stressed that organizing this visit to the Indonesian Embassy was precisely to allow the children to witness and experience this distant care firsthand, planting seeds of “boundless love” in their hearts. Dr. Zhao expressed sincere gratitude to the Indonesian Embassy for its strong support and to the ambassadors’ wives and diplomats for their longstanding dedication to public welfare.
Mr. Liu Zhenzhong, Deputy General Secretary of China Foundation for Peace and Development, emphasized in his speech that the foundation’s mission is to advance people-to-people connectivity and safeguard world peace through international public welfare initiatives.
Amidst the warm and touching atmosphere, students from Dingri County presented whitehadas (traditional Tibetan silk scarves) to embassy officials and other VIP guests, symbolizing the highest respect and heartfelt thanks. The children then performed a meticulously prepared Xizang folk dance, with graceful movements and melodious songs showcasing the unique cultural charm of the snow-covered plateau and the positive spirit of Xizang youth.
During the event, two young students, Zhao Wanchen and Liu Zhiyu, sang “Love in Asia-Africa” , the official anthem of WEDS.AA. Their pure voices conveyed a message of peace and friendship, earning rounds of applause from the guests. The event concluded with a live performance of Gamelan (a traditional Indonesian musical form) by a renowned Indonesian artist. The melodious, time-honored tunes echoed through the hall, transporting attendees to the remote and mystical Indonesian archipelago, bringing the activity to a climax. The children listened intently, their eyes sparkling with curiosity and joy, as Chinese and foreign cultures achieved perfect resonance in that moment.
This cultural exchange not only opened a window for Xizang’s teachers and students to understand the world but also wrote a heartwarming chapter in China-foreign civil friendship. Throughout the event, laughter and warmth prevailed, filled with sincere emotions and bright hopes. Through firsthand participation, the children felt the profound emotions spanning mountains and seas, planting seeds of peace, friendship, and understanding in their hearts.
