President Zhao Meiling Led a delegation to visit Tanzania, Malawi and South Africa
From February 29 to March 10, 2024, Zhao Meiling, President of Women Empowerment & Development Society in Asia-Africa(WEDS.AA) led a delegation to Tanzania, Malawi and South Africa for a working visit. The purpose of the visit is approaching to Africa continent, learn about Africa cultures and explore new forms of public welfare projects in Africa.
President Zhao met respectively with Amon Mpanju, Deputy Permanent Secretary of the Tanzanian Ministry of Women, and Joseph Kahams, Secretary of Tanzania China Friendship Promotion Association, to discuss cooperation in the field of primary and secondary education; Met with Dr. Joyce Banda, former President of Malawi to map out the development prospects of the WEDS.AA.; Paid courtesy meetings to the South African Minister of Social Development, the spouse of the Deputy Minister of Education, the spouse of the Ambassador and held talks with the director of the International Relation Department of the Ministry of Women and other officials. They exchanged in-depth views on the public welfare projects carried out by the WEDS.AA in Africa.

During the visit, President Zhao and her delegation visited the “Love in Malawi”, “Agricultural equipment”, “Kits of Love” and other programs launched by the China Foundation for Peace and Development “Silk Road Happiness” special fund in Malawi, and met with the women and students benefited by the projects. The delegation also visited primary and secondary schools.

Wherever the delegation went, they received a warm welcome from local people with sing and dance. The scene was very warm and touching.

President Zhao also met with Chinese Ambassador to Tanzania Chen Mingjian, Ambassador to Malawi Long Zhou, Ambassador to South Africa Chen Xiaodong and Minister Li Zhigang respectively, and listened to the opinions and suggestions for the WEDS.AA’s public welfare activities in Africa from the Chinese ambassadors. The ambassadors welcomed Women Empowerment & Development Society in Asia-Africa to come to Africa and contribute to the promotion of friendly cooperation between China and Africa and the enhancement of people-to-people bond.
